Companies donate money, supplies to deck the halls at Martin

Martin Middle School is getting a makeover with the help of nearly 30 volunteers from Appreciation Financial along with campus volunteers. 

When:                        8 a.m.–4 p.m.Monday, Dec. 18

10:45 a.m. Surprise gift presentation and volunteer pep talk 

At 10:45 a.m., Appreciation Financial will present the principal of Martin Middle School with a school communications app that students will be able to use to interact with teachers and programs at the school. The app is designed to increase student engagement, parent involvement, teacher empowerment and stakeholder communication.

Volunteers will add four indoor murals that include African-American, Hispanic and Civil Rights themes throughout the school. Volunteers will also powerwash the front entryway, plant flowers and plants, build a stage for outdoor concerts, build picnic tables for an outdoor dining area, revamp the butterfly garden and add benches for outdoor classes. 

The school was chosen as the beautification site because it has a high concentration of economically disadvantaged students. 

Serving nearly 450 students in grades 6-8, Martin Middle School offers career and technology classes in robotics, animation and web design through Project Lead the Way, a national leader in science, technology, engineering, and math. Student’s from the school’s Innovation Academy, as well as mentors from the school’s My Brother’s Keeper program, will be on hand serving as project leads alongside teachers and volunteers. 

Martin also features a Family Resource Center on campus to ensure parents and guardians have the support they need to help their children succeed in school and life.
